Business Card Holder Card Case Folk Cloth Seidai よつめ染布舎
A business card case made from fabric dyed using the traditional "katazome" technique.
All pieces are handcrafted by artisans, so even the same pattern has its own unique character.
The pattern outlines may waver, or the way the dye soaks in may vary.
That "irregularity" brings out expressions and warmth that can't be created digitally.
*Because the appearance of the pattern changes depending on the cutting location, you cannot choose the position of the pattern. Please understand this in advance.
A business card case that starts conversations
When you think of business card cases, plain leather ones are the mainstream.
But this card case makes an impression at first glance.
A moment when someone says, "That's a lovely card case," is sure to come.
Easy to use
When opened, there are pockets on both sides, so you can separate your cards from the other person's, carry two types of cards, and use it however you like. It also works well as a card holder for organizing point cards, not just as a business card case.
Each one made with care
The business card case is made by "Yotsume Senpukusha".
At this dyeing studio, they apply patterns to fabric using traditional Japanese techniques such as "katazome" and "tsutsugaki", and use that fabric to create products like business card cases.
They begin by making stencils with original designs. The stencil is placed on the fabric and a paste made from glutinous rice, rice bran, and other ingredients is brushed on. Areas covered with paste do not dye and become the white parts of the pattern.
Paste is applied freehand like piping whipped cream. Like katazome, the paste-covered areas remain white, but tsutsugaki's major feature is the freedom of expression unique to hand drawing.
For either technique, the subsequent steps are the same.
Once the paste dries, dye is applied with a brush. For a single color, this is done once, but for multi-color finishes, colors are layered one by one as if painting a picture.
Finally, washing off the paste with water reveals the pattern clearly, and once dried, the piece is complete.
In this way, after many steps a single piece of fabric is completed and then transformed into a business card case.
Patterns you can only find here
All patterns from "Yotsume Senpukusha" are original. Therefore, you can only get these designs here.
Ovals like grains of rice, triangles, lines, dots... patterns made by combining many shapes spread across the small canvas of the business card case. The impression changes depending on how the fabric is cut, so even the same pattern offers a unique expression in each product.
