Passing down the traditional "Kaijogi Aizome" to future generations

This mini tote bag uses Kaijogi Aizome, a traditional craft from the Kaijo region located in the western part of Tokushima Prefecture, with a history of over 400 years.

Developed to suit the harsh hot summers and cold winters of the Kaijo climate, this fabric has been cherished as workwear and everyday wear for many years. In addition to its thickness, the manufacturing process gives it excellent air permeability, moisture absorption, and heat retention properties, keeping it cool in summer and warm in winter. Because it is thick, it is also durable and resists shrinkage even after washing.

Hara Textile Factory, established in 1920 as the only Kaijo workshop that handles everything from dyeing to weaving, has preserved this tradition.

To protect the technology and spirit of Hara Textile Factory, Harappa Co., Ltd. was founded in March 2015 as a successor company. The designer Nana Yamazoe, who is the nephew of the former company president, uses Kaijogi Aizome from Hara Textile Factory for the apparel brand "YAMMA".

The Kaijogi Aizome, which has supported workwear and casual wear until now and the spirit of craftsmanship carefully preserved by Hara Textile Factory for 500 to 600 years, is used in this product.

Embracing the spirit of "careful use" in craftsmanship

Nana Yamazoe, the representative of Harappa Co., Ltd., has been involved with the apparel brand "YAMMA" since before taking over Hara Textile Factory, cherishing the following principles.

Without following trends or mass production, creating clothing that is loved and worn for a long time.
"The experience of continuing to cherish a single item connects to the wearer’s confidence."

Usable regardless of summer or winter, Kaijogi Aizome, which is truly a material reflecting Yamazoe’s philosophy. Based on this idea, both YAMMA and HARAPPA adopt a production style that allows customers to use and cherish the products for a long time.

However, as the number of orders increases, there have been challenges in meeting customer demand. Therefore, Yamazoe-san proposed "a simple design that can be worn comfortably regardless of age" and "a design that does not follow trends," continuing to create items that fit well over time.

One of these is this mini tote bag. While not flashy, it can be loved and used for a long time without being affected by trends or age.

Also, because it is made from solid materials at first, it may feel stiff initially, but the more you use it, the softer it becomes, and you can enjoy using it for a long time.
