Yotsume Dyed Cloth Calendar 2026 | An Art Calendar that Breathes the Beauty of Pattern Dyeing and the Four Seasons

"Yotsume Dyed Cloth Calendar 2026" layers each scene of Japan’s four seasons as if dyeing cloth one sheet at a time. The paintings, designed based on the meaning of katazome (pattern dyeing), are expressed on paper using a unique printing technique. Unlike typical calendar prints, the texture and quality reminiscent of woodblock prints can be felt. The deeply colored paper is firmly dyed, giving the sensation as if holding a single piece of artwork in your hands.

Each month uses a different type of paper, creating a luxurious style where the texture changes with every turn. This calendar allows you to experience the beautiful seasons of Japan throughout the year.

Neither too big nor too small, a size that gently colors your daily life.

January. Celebrating the start of the year with the elegance of pine, bamboo, and plum blossoms.

Scenery of the seasons encountered each turn of the page. A calendar that leaves a lasting impression throughout the year.

The designer behind this work is Yoichi Ono, a dye artist active mainly in Oita Prefecture. After working in Oita Prefecture, he relocated his base to his hometown Oita in spring 2025. While carefully capturing everyday scenery such as natural light, wind, and the sound of rain, he expresses the meaning of pattern dyeing and "Japan’s four seasons."

【Words from Mr. Ono at the end of the calendar】
“By rediscovering and directly observing the rich landscapes of Japan’s four seasons, this design aims to naturally adapt to changes in nature. In April 2025, I moved back to my hometown Oita. When the place you live changes, everything in your daily life changes, and you become more mindful not to take ordinary things for granted. Rain, sunlight, the pleasantness of the wind — these subtle everyday details become especially meaningful. In the 2026 calendar, I tried to depict the natural everyday life and the four seasons of Japan.”
