Feeling the Breath of the Craftsman: The Existence of the "Sasano Itto Bori"

Sasano Itto Bori (Sasano Ittobori) is a traditional craft tool that has been handed down for thousands of years by farmers living in the Sasano area of Yamakata Prefecture, Yonezawa City.

Traditional craftsmen carefully carve each piece of wood, such as "Koshiabura," using only a blade called a "Surikiri."

The Charm of Child and Grandchild Prosperity and Demon-Repelling Amulets

Representative works of Sasano Itto Bori include "Niwatori" (chicken), "Sekirei" (bluebird), and "Otake Poppo" (little hawk).

According to the financial reform and encouragement of diligence by Yonezawa Domain lord "Kamiura Takayama," sayings such as "Wake up early like a chicken" and "Prosper like a bluebird" arose, leading to the phrase "Otake Poppo rising up."

This ancient Otake Poppo is a revival version of the old hawk poppo.

It is recommended as a celebratory gift for occasions such as childbirth celebrations.
