Traditional patterns and craftsmanship intertwined, a beautiful and practical horizontal tote bag

The "Pattern of Happiness" series is an original design Fuwa Market that brings to life the “wish for happiness” inherent in traditional Japanese patterns, created together with a textile designer.
One of the patterns, Nanten, is a plant traditionally cherished as a “ward off evil” and “repel misfortune.”
We have designed modern patterns that infuse this auspicious motif with contemporary lifestyle sensibilities.
✔ Meticulous craftsmanship: Each piece dyed carefully at a dye workshop in Kyoto
✔ Modern traditional patterns: Enjoy choosing from 3 types of patterns × 2 color variations
✔ High durability: Made from thick, plain-woven cotton canvas (No. 8), durable and long-lasting
✔ Also an elegant gift: “Pattern of Happiness” that conveys special thoughts
Adding elegance to your everyday life with traditional beauty

The size of the horizontal tote bag is approximately 24cm (height) × 35cm (width) (base width 24cm). It feels slightly larger than an A4 size.

The depth is 15cm, wide enough to comfortably hold your wallet, pouch, pet bottle, folding umbrella, and more.
There is plenty of space to also fit your lunch box or bento, making it highly recommended as a lunch bag.

Inside, there is a convenient mini pocket perfect for storing small items like your phone or keys.

The opening has a metal button, making the contents less visible and preventing items from flying out.

This tote bag is perfect for shopping, casual strolls, daily outings, commuting to work or school, travel, and even leisure activities—versatile in many scenes.
Add a touch of Japanese elegance to your everyday outings.
The charm of hand-dyeing that stands out in craftsmanship

The tote bag features Fuwa Market’s original textile design.
It is made from domestically produced cotton canvas fabric from the brand “Fujikinbai (Fuji Kinbai),” a traditional cotton canvas fabric highly valued for generations. Today, precious shuttle looms are used to weave each piece carefully.

At a dye workshop in Kyoto, skilled artisans hand-dye each piece meticulously.
The traditional technique creates a deep color and a unique blend that is truly captivating.

Looking at the fabric up close, you can feel the subtle layering of colors unique to hand-dyeing.
The delicate gradations and nuances drawn by handcrafting express a one-of-a-kind beauty.

Each piece is dyed carefully and individually, creating depth and warmth that cannot be expressed by simple printing.

The hand-dyed cotton canvas fabric is carefully dyed one piece at a time by skilled artisans. The subtle differences in each piece express a special uniqueness just for you.
We hope you experience the charm of this unique blend and warmth created by the artisan’s handwork.
Wishes and prayers woven into the Nanten pattern

Nanten for warding off evil
Nanten is a plant passed down from China during the Heian period, treasured as a medicinal herb that suppresses misfortune since ancient times.
From the end of autumn to the beginning of winter, it bears many bright red berries and is cherished as a warding-off-evil plant with the wish to “turn hardship into happiness.”
It is also believed that placing it near the altar prevents evil spirits from approaching.
In the Edo period’s Hyakka Jiten (Encyclopedia of a Hundred Sciences), it is said that “planting Nanten prevents fire disasters,” and it was planted in many households’ unlucky corners as a protective presence to ensure family safety.

The colors are exhibited in two variations: a warm red series, and

a gentle blue series.
While the colors harmonize beautifully, each has its own character, making them ideal as colorful items for daily life. Since they are Japanese-style designs, they also go well with bathrobes and kimonos.
※ Please understand that there are individual differences in the placement of the pattern on the fabric because it is cut from large pieces of cloth.
