Traditional Patterns and Craftsmanship Woven Together, Beautiful and Practical Horizontal Tote Bag

The "Pattern of Happiness" series is an original design born from the meaning of "wishing for happiness" inherent in Japanese traditional patterns, created together with a textile designer.

One of the patterns, Ichimatsu, is a checkerboard pattern with correct proportions that includes meanings such as "prosperity of descendants" and "continuation of business."

We designed it as a modern reinterpretation that infuses the good motifs of traditional patterns into contemporary lifestyle.

Meticulous Craftsmanship: Each piece is carefully dyed at a dyeing workshop in Kyoto.
Modern Traditional Pattern: Enjoy selecting from 3 types of patterns × 2 color variations.
High Durability: Made with thick, flat-woven canvas fabric (No. 8) that is sturdy and long-lasting.
Also Suitable as a High-Quality Gift: The "Pattern of Happiness" conveys a special sentiment.

Traditional Beauty to Add Elegance to Your Everyday Life

The horizontal tote bag measures approximately 24cm tall × 35cm wide (bottom width 24cm). It feels slightly larger than A4 size.

The depth is 15cm, wide enough to comfortably hold wallets, pouches, pet bottles, folding umbrellas, and more.

It is also large enough to fit lunch boxes and water bottles, making it highly recommended as a lunch bag.

Inside, there is a mini pocket convenient for storing small items such as your commuter pass or keys.

The opening has a metal button, making it hard to see inside and preventing items from easily falling out.

Whether for shopping, casual strolls, daily outings, commuting to work or school, travel, or leisure, this tote bag is versatile and stylish.

It adds a touch of Japanese color to your everyday outings.

The Charm of Hand-Dyeing That Stands Out in Craftsmanship

The tote bag features an original hand-dyed textile design using the traditional techniques of Fuwa Market.

Using domestically produced canvas fabric from the brand "Fujikinbai (Fuji Kinbai)", a traditional canvas fabric, each piece is handwoven and dyed carefully using a precious weaving machine.

That high-quality canvas fabric is dyed one by one by craftsmen at a dyeing workshop in Kyoto.

The traditional technique creates a deep color and a unique blend that is truly captivating.

Looking closely at the fabric, you can feel the richness of the colors unique to hand-dyeing.

Subtle gradations and nuances unique to handcrafting create a one-of-a-kind beauty.

Each edition is carefully dyed one by one, giving birth to depth and warmth that cannot be expressed by simple printing.

The hand-dyed canvas fabric is crafted by artisans who carefully dye each piece by hand. The subtle differences in expression bring out a unique feeling just for you.

Please experience the charm of this blend of traditional craftsmanship and warmth born from the artisans’ handiwork.

Wishes and Prayers Woven into the Checkerboard Pattern

Checkerboard Pattern, Traditional Beauty

If you carefully observe the correct proportions of the colored squares, they appear to move gently as if fluttering softly.

The checkerboard pattern looks as if life itself has been breathed into it.

Ichimatsu, the checkerboard pattern, was popularized by Ichimatsu San, a kabuki actor, who appeared in white and red costumes with the checkerboard pattern, especially beloved by women.

Previously called the Ishizuki pattern, the name was changed to Ichimatsu pattern due to its popularity.

Even today, it is the design of the main character's green and black checkered kimono in the manga "Demon Slayer," beloved by many regardless of era.

The colors are a green series with a hint of yellowish-green,

and a warm red series with two color variations.

Despite the subdued color harmony, it has personality and is very suitable as a colorful item for everyday life. Because it is a Japanese modern design, it also matches well with bathrobes and kimonos.

※ Because the fabric is made with thick canvas, there are individual differences in the placement of the checkerboard pattern. Please understand this in advance.

Importance of connections with the local area and society

All original products by Fuwa Market are carefully crafted by Japanese artisans based in Kyoto.

Along with that, some light tasks such as preparing packages and tagging are carried out in cooperation with the employment support facility "tomoni" of related companies.

https://tomoni-b.jp/

This collaboration was born from the experience of Fuwa Market’s representative, the Nishida family.

By participating in the manufacturing site, we ask for work within a range that connects with users’ confidence and joy, and we return that value (wages) accordingly.

Fuwa Market values the cooperation of "craftsmen's skills and the hands of related people coming together to shape products."

We cherish such collaboration.
